Ontario Marketing Job Industry

Ontario’s marketing industry is the most lucrative and energetic in the country.  With $3.82 billion in marketing revenue for 2008, Ontario generated 57% of the country’s entire marketing economy.  Marketing professionals in the province earned a total of $1.41 billion in salary for 2008, a 3.1% increase over the previous year.  The marketing firms in Ontario produced $1,686 billion in revenue with an 11.8% operating profit margin.

Public relations services generated $278.1 million in 2008, while paying out $128.7 million in salaries.  Media buying agencies earned $250.2 million in 2008, while paying out $96.8 million in salaries to marketing professionals.

The median earned $104,988, which was almost $11,000 or 11.67% more than the national median of $94,016.  The highest quartile of this profession in Ontario earned $131,399, or $13,732 more than the national mean for this quartile.

Marketing Degrees in Ontario

Ontario is home to 23 publicly funded universities and 17 privately funded, religious universities.   These institutions offer two year, three year and four year degree programs, and most offer degrees in marketing related areas like business, information technology, journalism, and graphic design.

In order to enter the marketing industry, a Bachelor’s degree is usually required.  Positions in management typically require at least a Bachelor’s degree and seven years of work experience, with preference often going to those who possess a Master’s degree or higher.  Similar education requirements apply to executive positions, with most also requiring at least 15 years of work experience.
