Idaho, like most states, has struggled through the current global recession, but it has many important advantages that will continue to attract businesses, jobs and marketing opportunities.  With a business environment that CNBC ranked 13th in the nation in 2012, Idaho boasts very low cost of doing business, qualified and trainable workforce and a very low cost of living.

Marketing professionals may not find a large marketing industry in Idaho, but the opportunities are multiplying rapidly.  Marketing managers numbered 808 in 2008 and are expected to reach 915 by 2018, a 13.2% increase in the profession.  Public relations managers totaled 280 in 2008, and are expected to reach 328 by 2018, a 17.1% increase in the number of positions.

Ranked 11th in high tech jobs, 12th in industry investment in R & D, and first in per capita patent issuances, by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, Idaho boasts one of the best economies for producing jobs and businesses that are technology based and marketing reliant.  The strong presence of high tech industry will afford many opportunities for marketing professionals through the coming years.

Boise possesses the strongest metropolitan economy in the state with a gross metropolitan product of $24.1 billion in 2011.  The presence of many high tech companies, including the headquarters of Fortune 500 company Micron, has contributed to Boise’s growing reputation as a center of information technology commerce.  Companies like Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Clickbank, Sybase, Balihoo.com, Intracon NA, and Wire-stone.com all have major facilities in the Boise area.
