Marketing professionals may not find a large marketing industry in Idaho, but the opportunities are multiplying rapidly.  Marketing managers numbered 808 in 2008 and are expected to reach 915 by 2018, a 13.2% increase in the profession.  Public relations managers totaled 280 in 2008, and are expected to reach 328 by 2018, a 17.1% increase in the number of positions.

The non-managerial careers in marketing are expected to add positions at a ferocious pace in coming years.  Market research analyst and marketing specialist jobs are expected to grow 35.1% from 529 in 2008, to 715 by 2018.  Public relations specialist positions are projected to grow by 24.7% from 701 in 2008, to 878 by 2018.

More importantly, the number of entrepreneurial opportunities for marketing professionals should ramp up as Idaho’s economy expands.  Chase Financial Analysts predict Idaho’s economy will grow 2.9% in 2012, 3.4% in 2013 and 3.7% in 2014.  The accelerating economic growth is complemented by a marketing rich environment.  Idaho supports more entrepreneurial activity than all but four states, and many of these business startups are in the high tech industry.

Boise possesses the strongest metropolitan economy in the state with a gross metropolitan product of $24.1 billion in 2011.  The presence of many high tech companies, including the headquarters of Fortune 500 company Micron, has contributed to Boise’s growing reputation as a center of information technology commerce.  Companies like Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Clickbank, Sybase, Balihoo.com, Intracon NA, and Wire-stone.com all have major facilities in the Boise area.
